“The trouble with insects is that they are like French locomotives—they have the works on the outside.”

—Owen Barfield

This artwork takes that idea and runs with it—mechanical, spiritual, and a bit ironic.

'People, Insects and French Locomotives' is part portrait, part philosophical challenge. Jesus’ face here is shaped not by tradition, but by technology and modern image-making—questioning how we see Him, and why.

At its core, this work wrestles with acceptance. In faith, we’re told God’s mercy is freely given—yet we’re often conditioned to earn acceptance through effort, performance, or how we appear on the outside.

This painting pushes back on that.

It’s a visual rejection of striving—choosing instead to rest in a peace that doesn’t need proving.
